One of the heavyweights of the gig economy put out a list of new features just in time for the holidays, and it’s important to double-check it.
On Monday, Uber (NYSE: UBER) released a number of updates to its ridesharing and delivery systems, all of which were focused on shipping, shipping over the holiday season, and travel. A dedicated Holiday Shop on Uber Eats and an updated version of its same-day delivery service Uber Connect are among the new features.
Uber’s chief product officer, Sundeep Jain, wrote in a blog post that “this year, whatever the holidays look like for you and your family, Uber is here to help you Go Anywhere and Get Anything — whether you’re traveling, hosting or sending gifts.”
By expanding the options available to customers and introducing a new sophisticated searching feature that enables them to shop from multiple merchants concurrently, compare pricing, and view delivery times, the platform is also making it simpler for users to find alcohol-related products.
Customers can now ask Uber to conduct the necessary research when looking for illusive goods. Users may make incredibly detailed requests through the platform’s new “custom orders” feature, and it will find the requested things on its own.
But there are yet more new features to come. Uber gave shipping a lot of attention in addition to purchasing.
As an illustration, users on Uber Eats now have the choice to “gift” any order to friends or family. Customers can choose “make it a present” at the checkout when placing an order from shops and restaurants in more than 10,000 cities globally. The recipient’s phone will then receive a personalized message from Uber along with tracking information.
Additionally, the business made some significant changes to Uber Connect, its system for same-day local shipment. With new capabilities including the option to send numerous parcels at once, ship to various destinations, and confirm arrival with proof of delivery, customers can utilize the service to send gifts or seasonal delicacies across town.
Uber also broadened its mobility platform to ease holiday travel.
For instance, the function Uber Travel, which debuted this spring, is now accessible in more than 10,000 cities globally, including all of the main ones in the United States and Canada. Through the integration of travel arrangements from email accounts, the service coordinates customers’ hotel, flight, and dining bookings.
Additionally, the company expanded on its Uber Explore and Uber Charter offerings. While Charter, a service for making reservations for group trips, has been expanded to more than 20 major U.S. cities, Explore, which assists customers in finding tourism attractions, events, and local eateries, is now collaborating with OpenTable and Viator to bring more experiences.
